This co-op will gain practical experience to develop engineering judgment, with increasing independent control over design decisions, processes, adaptations, and/or modifications. Functions may include, but not limited to, performing tests, process changes using 3D modeling and Oracle, gathering and preparing data, and giving presentations. Depending on experience level, they will be given opportunities to lead their own projects.
ESSENTIAL/PRIMARY DUTIES:
Mechanical Engineering
Design and analyze complex parts and assemblies to applicable standards.
Make decisions and provide technical data for decisions that impact compliance with design specifications.
Intensely involved in all phases of the design from analysis, testing, and qualification for production and sale to the public.
Collaborate on project teams, lead project teams, and direct activities of team members.
Create documents related to the design engineering function. Documentation of layout drawings, detail drawings, assembly drawings, Bill of Materials, Engineering Change Orders, and design records.
Work to ensure that the design complies with all specified regulatory agencies.
Develop product and component test specifications. Actively participate as a team member to acquire detailed product and user knowledge.
Electrical Engineering
Conduct research in an effort to develop new products, as well as improve existing processes and/or product design.
Gain an understanding of the new product development process by participating on cross-functional teams, including mechanical, software, industrial, tooling, and supply chain development.
Assist in the design and analysis of complex parts and controls systems to applicable standards.
Develop control and component test specifications.
Actively involved in all phases of the design, analysis of design, testing of design, and qualification of the design for production and sale to the public.
Create documents related to the electrical engineering function. Documents include, flow charts, wiring schematics, electronic schematics, source code, hazard analysis, validation test plans, and Bill of Materials, Engineering Change Orders and design records.
Introduction to a design process compliant with FDA, Good Manufacturing Processes, ISO 9001, Underwriters Laboratories Standards, Canadian Standards, IEC-60601 and any future regulations that may affect product design.
Manufacturing Engineering
Conduct research in an effort to improve manufacturing processes and/or product design.
Gain an understanding of the plant, processes, and equipment by working with a diverse group of functional areas on cost, quality, lead time and safety improvements.
Manage the people, the process, and the product aspects of a problem to implement a solution.
Analyze and plan workspace requirements, workflow, and layout of equipment for maximum efficiency.
Technical writing of standardized work instructions.
Assist in the design and analysis of complex parts and assemblies to meet applicable standards.
Assist in providing technical data for decisions that impact compliance with design specifications.
Participate on cross-functional teams.
Daily tasks to include: attend meetings, project activities, problem analysis, and technical reports, troubleshoot manufacturing or quality problems, and communicate with internal and external customers.
Development Software and Firmware Engineering
Write and maintain Embedded Control System (ECS) software and use manufactured hardware.
Write and maintain Windows PC software for engineering and production test stations.
Create and implement both automated and manual software verification and validation testing.
Develop control and test specifications and ensure development of hardware/software that properly verifies design in production.
Make decisions and/or provide technical data for decisions that impact compliance with design specifications.
Actively involved in all phases of the design, analysis of design, testing of design, and qualification of the design for production and sale to the public.
Create documents related to the software engineering function.
Create documentation required to ensure the product can be produced as designed.
Develop and maintain record of the design process to comply with FDA, Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP), ISO, Underwriters Laboratories Standards, Canadian Standards, IEC and any future regulations that may affect product design.
SECONDARY DUTIES:
Complete engineering change orders.
Write test protocols and reports.
Use a variety of software tool sets, such as 3D modeling, Microsoft Office.
Conduct report-outs and formal presentations on work conducted.
